Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.
Dice Rolling
Play occurs upon a modular board that is composed of multiple pieces, often tiles or cards. In many games, board placement is randomized, leading to different possibilities for strategy and exploration. Some games in this category have multiple boards which are not used simultaneously, preserving table space. Unused boards remain out of play until they are required.
Modular Board

Interesting addition to the game. Villagers are present also, there's a reward if you save them, and also a curse if the villagers happen to die. The themes makes sense, the ghost with the haunter ability now scares villagers away as he approaches the village, he still haunts when he's closest to the village tile in from of him. When he haunts it kills all villagers in that tile, so you have to be careful. New ghosts with devourer ability also kill villagers, or bite a taoist in case no villagers are present in the village (either their were saved or killed). Su ling appears when a bad thing happens, tile haunted, a villager killed or the curse die is rolled, she also helps protect the village, she is put on a haunting spot and prevent the middle icon of ghosts to be activated. Also if she is put on a corner tile she can put a gem on an altar next to that tile, thus making, as time goes by, quite possible the activation of the 4 gems this way. The card thickness is inferior to the original game. What?!?!? bad production here!!!... You can actually feel the card much more thinner even when using sleeves. bah

I normally never rate or comment on expansions, but this one is almost a new game (mode, at least). I'd recommend a purchase, but it does make the game far more of a nerve wrecking experience. We often leave these components in the box, but it's great to mix in every once in a while for a tenser experience.

I love the fact this game feels like an ongoing struggle! Squeaking out is SO satisfying every time. I do think there's a way to sort of figure out the base game so that you mostly win as a 1-2 player game but the White Moon Expansion really does well with adding more great options to do in any given turn while at the same balancing the difficulty more so. Sure the devourers will ruin your day real quick, but kung fu school and saving the right items will really make the game feel epic instead of hopeless if your having bad rolls and card draws I'll play this game at any player count but if you have an alpha player, it's not that great of a time. And it's this reason why it isn't rated higher for me.
