Gen7: A Crossroads Game
60m - 90m
3 - 4 Players
Ages 14+
Card drafting games are games in which players pick cards from a limited subset, such as a common pool, to gain some advantage (immediate or longterm) or to assemble hands of cards that are used to meet objectives within the game.
Card Drafting
Co-operative play encourages or requires players to work together to beat the game.
Cooperative Play
Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.
Dice Rolling
Play occurs upon a modular board that is composed of multiple pieces, often tiles or cards. In many games, board placement is randomized, leading to different possibilities for strategy and exploration. Some games in this category have multiple boards which are not used simultaneously, preserving table space. Unused boards remain out of play until they are required.
Modular Board
Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.
Variable Player Powers
Voting allows players to influence the outcome of certain events within the game. The vote may be all or nothing, choosing a target for an effect, or to determine the results of certain situations. Players’ votes may not have equal weight, and blocking a player from voting can be a valid tactic.
Voting
This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

Played the first mission and never got the same set of people back to the table for mission two. At this point I don't recall anything from mission one so I'd be happy to start a new game.

DoW is a better game, unless you don't like rolling for exposure during movement or prefer that the Crossroads cards trigger more often. Also, the Crossroads cards in Gen7, although trigger more often than in DoW, have a less dramatic effect on the game.

We have completed four missions now and I am impressed with the story itself. But the game... It feels very long and has no tension. The best part is the few points where you need to make a decision, I wish there were more of those. For me the Crossroad cards could be left out of the game, yes they add a little flavor but the impact is so close to none that I get annoyed every time :-( Yes, there are some where things will happen, but 9 out of 10 just tells me to adjust the heart/mind scale and that really doesn't matter. Do you want a coop euro with little tension but a lot of story? This might be a game for you.
