Play occurs upon a modular board that is composed of multiple pieces, often tiles or cards. In many games, board placement is randomized, leading to different possibilities for strategy and exploration. Some games in this category have multiple boards which are not used simultaneously, preserving table space. Unused boards remain out of play until they are required.

Fixes many issues with Terra Mystica. However lacks a bit of the charm and also feels like it is a bit too open and sparse, giving a feeling of less interaction.

Maybe I'll give this another go one day, but it just felt like unless you play this game a tonne you're just battling against the system. Depth vs Complexity is a difficult relationship, I have no doubt that this game has a lot of depth, but the complexity is a real barrier. EDIT: 2023 update Played again, now with more experience in board gaming in general, while I can respect this game and think it achieves what it sets out to achieve it is not really one for me. I have no problem with no luck euros, no problem with tight euros, but theres something about this game that just feels like homework, you're solving an efficiency puzzle in a very naked sense, you are kind of building an engine but you can choke it if you're not careful. I can't put my finger on exactly what it is I don't enjoy, I love Anachrony, but that feels like a game with a fun arc where you build a fun engine, the tightness works, but I think its ultimately because the theme comes across more and it feels like more than just an efficiency puzzle.

This game is perfect. It's so well balanced that most scores end up within a small margin of each other with completely different paths. We really enjoyed the original and this felt more streamlined but still fairly identical to the main part of the game. The factions all felt different and the strategies to use them are different. I think I prefer the original theme more but this was really well done to make it seem like you were in space doing the same thing. The federation is a cool idea and the green cubes add another layer of decisions to the game. The choices you have to make are incredibly interesting and the resources are tight often spending everything to pull off bigger moves. The game play feels different despite being so similar because of how you look at and maneuver around the map. The variability is much higher due to the map. Looking forward to trying out all the factions. This deserves to be in the top 10.
