The Campaign/Battle Card Driven mechanic is a relatively recent development in war games that focuses the players' actions on cards they have in their hand. The very basic idea is that performing a single action uses a single card. Games where cards are used to determine the outcome of battles do not use this mechanic.
Campaign / Battle Card Driven
Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.

Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.

A 2 player card driven medium-light euro/wargame during the years of Greek independence struggle. Nice production quality but it has some issues mainly at the board i.e dark fonts (i used a flashlight to be able to read the numbers), at the islands -and sea in general- the lines are for connecting the routes and not for separating the areas, wrong colors at 2 strategic areas, some wrong counters size and the overall dark art direction isnt the best choice in my humble opinion especially when PHALANX has provided us with some great -artistic- games. The solo bot it does its job for the most part but it needs some fixing especially if there are imperial units inside the walls i.e. in my game i drew a red 2 card to defend as Greeks and immediately i searched the insurgents hand to find the highest valued one, a 4 and used that to kill the intruders. I dont know about 2 players but as a solo isnt very challeging. The info on the cards is great and very thematic, rulebook is good in most cases but the slow movement at the sea zones should had been explained more analytic. Overall a good CDG game especially if you like the era since its almost unique regarding that matter. Of course not to forget, its too bad that there isnt an imperial bot maybe in future?

Great siege game. The decision space is large, and there is a great progression to the game with the different periods, which adds to the mounting pressure. A little gem of a game, on an obscure topic but for the Greeks. M'aresei poli !
