Flash Point: Fire Rescue – Dangerous Waters takes the firefighting experience to – and below – the seas.
This expansion for Flash Point: Fire Rescue includes two double-sided half boards (similar to those in the 2nd Story expansion) that represent a ship on one side and a part of a submarine on the other. The interior of the ship features an engine room, cabins and heat-conducting steel walls on a 6×8 game board, while the submarine is an elongated 3×16 game board that features victims who can’t just leap out of a window to safety – and who might be in danger even within the sick bay.
First we died on the freighter as the crew quarters turned into a furnace and melted the hull, then we died underwater as successful firefighting and rescue in the bow came to naught when the engine room abruptly exploded into ruin.
Two interesting and challenging maps which bring a few tweaks to bear, like the blast doors and the potential for them to get jammed with numerous explosions. That's all there really is to it, though, so it will best serve those that have played in the more conventional structures and want to face off against a boat or submarine.
My absolute favorite expansion! The BIG ship board can be really hard to beat . . . and yet because this game is so fun, I routinely try unsuccessfully and still enjoy it! The submarine is unique and fun. The lack of a "safe zone" (even the infirmary can catch on fire) is a fresh challenge. The sheer length of the board and the vast distance from one end to the other presents interesting challenges for movement and character selection as well. But man, that BIG ship board is a TON of challenging fun! Love it!
