I wasn't a fan of the tv series; its Wild West in space theming seemed both implausible and lazy (space, the wild frontier - geddit? Yes). I'll have to take the word of other commenters that Firefly is true to its theme. There is certainly a shed load of characters and stuff, and while it is possible to operate as a law abiding trader, there are abundant temptations to take up the outlaw life. Firefly is frequently likened to Merchant of Venus and indeed both are games in which picking up and delivering is repeated for rather too long. That and the game play is solitaire-ish; the other players are just downtime between your turns. There is also a hatful of random elements from card draws for just about everything to dice rolls to overcome challenges. The luck can be mitigated, but still it can screw you. A jolly wild frontier narrative gives Firefly some appeal, but ultimately it isn't quite enough. Production quality is excellent, though the artwork is uninspired.

Played a 2 player game in just over an hour with the intro scenario (posted online.) Lots of theme and the job mechanism is pretty fun!

This is a great sandbox game - it's let down a little by the lack of automation in the reavers etc; our groups are not the sort to like 'take-that' play so we never tend to send the reavers after each other, which is unthematic. Otherwise - brilliant.
