Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.

Krista liked this but I didn't. Can't remember why. After a 2nd play this game has gone from "I never want to play this again" (3) to "This game is stupid." (4) An improvement! Sold. It was okay, but I have no desire to play it again and now that I've seen it I don't feel like participating in the solo challenges.

Perhaps it's that the publisher should have never said this game is playable with 6 players, but a game in which you get three turns, and spend most of the time watching other players draw cubes is odd. Even had the game lasted a reasonable number of turns, you just spend so much of it doing nothing, and there's no player interaction that makes other players' turns meaningful to you. I also really didn't enjoy the all or nothing aspect of pushing your luck in this game. When I liken it to a game like Quacks of Quedlinburg, which is also a draw things out of a bag press your luck game, there's just nothing here that makes the press your luck fun or exciting. It's just an exercise in drawing cubes, hoping you don't draw red ones. Yes, there are equipment cards, but even those all have very obvious use cases, and don't really add interest. In summary, the game managed to capture the feeling of sitting in a library, but failed to capture the excitement of it catching fire.
