Play occurs upon a modular board that is composed of multiple pieces, often tiles or cards. In many games, board placement is randomized, leading to different possibilities for strategy and exploration. Some games in this category have multiple boards which are not used simultaneously, preserving table space. Unused boards remain out of play until they are required.
Modular Board
The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.
Set Collection
Tile Placement games feature placing a piece to score VPs, with the amount often based on adjacent pieces or pieces in the same group/cluster, and keying off non-spatial properties like color, "feature completion", cluster size etc.

Mechanically, there is nothing new about Fertility. We are placing domino tiles on a grid in order to gain five kinds of resources. Those resources are spent on building shops and then stocking them in order to gain victory points or things that score them. Collecting one of the resources is worth an escalating number of points. Another way of earning points is by getting monuments onto the board by placing your dominos so as to leave isolated empty squares. There may be nothing new here, but it is well assembled to offer a satisfyingly Carcassonne-ish experience of finding the best place for your tile that doesn't set up an opponent, in a Carcassonne-ish sort of playing time. My one reservation is that after two plays I'm not sure that Fertility has a great deal left to reveal. The artwork is easy on the eye. The box is at least 50% larger than it needs to be. The slot together cardboard monuments look unimpressive and a couple in the copy I played with were prone to falling apart. The English rules are fine.

Dominoes with a twist; a light game of position and timing, never short on choices, and about the right length for what is delivers. Naturally, one of those games where you really have to be careful about how you play, as you may grant other players greater opportunities through your missteps.

This is a light tile laying game in whichyou are placing a tile, getting the goods, and either purchasing a tile to add to your board, or assigning your resoures to tiles you already have for points. Very easy, quick, and is a great starter game for new players.
