This mechanic requires you to place a bid, usually monetary, on items in an auction of goods in order to enhance your position in the game. These goods allow players future actions or improve a position. The auction consists of taking turns placing bids on a given item until one winner is established, allowing the winner to take control of the item being bid on. Usually there is a game rule that helps drop the price of the items being bid on if no players are interested in the item at its current price.
Auction/Bidding
Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.
Dice Rolling
Play occurs upon a modular board that is composed of multiple pieces, often tiles or cards. In many games, board placement is randomized, leading to different possibilities for strategy and exploration. Some games in this category have multiple boards which are not used simultaneously, preserving table space. Unused boards remain out of play until they are required.
Modular Board
The simultaneous action selection mechanic lets players secretly choose their actions. After they are revealed, the actions resolve following the rule-set of the game.
Simultaneous Action Selection
Maneuvers that directly attack an opposing player's strength, level, life points or do something else to impede their progress.
Take That
In games with a trading mechanic, the players can exchange game items between each other.
Trading
Voting allows players to influence the outcome of certain events within the game. The vote may be all or nothing, choosing a target for an effect, or to determine the results of certain situations. Players’ votes may not have equal weight, and blocking a player from voting can be a valid tactic.

Really enjoyed the game. Eclipse is still my preference because of the more complicated ship upgrades, but this one is different enough that I fully enjoy them both.

I'm prob not a 4x player but for a 4x game this was decent. not too much downtime and decent emphasis on combat. rating likely to stay around 6. won't seek out more plays but ok to play. Second play was with the expansion. Asymmetry introduces the possibility of imbalance. It requires (as the designer/publisher says) experienced players but while I enjoyed the play alright, I'm not sure I'll put in the number of plays to get the best out of the expansion. Overall, it felt like an adequate 4x but possibly reinforced my opinion that I don't like 4x that much, especially when combat comes down to some form of dice rolls (though mitigable).

Played 3 times now and enjoyed it each time, all the actions seems to be choosing from 'good' choices rather than 'bad' ones and the game seems to flow smoothly, would be nice to have some kind of inter player trade, rockets seem a little nasty during the game but have little effect on the final scoring
