Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
The simultaneous action selection mechanic lets players secretly choose their actions. After they are revealed, the actions resolve following the rule-set of the game.
Simultaneous Action Selection
Maneuvers that directly attack an opposing player's strength, level, life points or do something else to impede their progress.

What an absolute delight of a game! Very, very beautiful art! Due to the ever changing variety of species which you'll create in each game, it seems there is no end of replayability. A tactical game, primarily; but it is the queen of tactical games! One must know when is the time to change course and go the way of the carnivore or something, or risk going the way of the dodo. Cut-throat? Well, I suppose...sorta: I'm not a fan of cutthroat games, but Evolution doesn't bother me at all. Being eaten by a carnivore doesn't really make you curse the opponent's beast, but rather ask yourself, "Now why did I waste my time opting for Foraging when I could easily have had a bright, shiny new defensive shell?" You roll with the punches and it doesn't really seem all that cutthroat...to me, anyways. A funny thing about Evolution is that it doesn't feel all that...evolution-y! It's more of a game about creating and taking part in a food chain rather than anything dealing with the theory of evolution. Once in a blue moon, you might change a trait; but that sure doesn't feel like your creature's evolved! It feels like your creature has adapted: adapted in an admittedly dramatic way. You are not developing from amoeba to dinosaur to mammal or anything like that: the vast majority of the trait cards show creatures that are fairly contemporary with each other. I don't know if this was the designer's deliberate intention, but for a game with the title "Evolution", it really seems like this could be played with good and friendly humour at your next mixed gathering of evolutionists and creationists! Apart from the title, there's no controversy in this game at all.

The greatest game for me ever. Have played about 50 times. Do not understand why it has so small score among other players

I personally love the concept of this game. I have only gotten to play it 3 times, and each time has been with new people so I've had to dedicate a lot of time to explaining things and answering questions. I would love to play this with a group of experienced players as I feel that it could get really fun. Plus, I am totally that person that names all of my species. I finally decided to try out the carnivore strategy... done correctly I see the benefit, but it is such a risk! I recently bought the Climate conversion kit... I LOVE IT so much more than just the regular game! So challenging!
