The Campaign/Battle Card Driven mechanic is a relatively recent development in war games that focuses the players' actions on cards they have in their hand. The very basic idea is that performing a single action uses a single card. Games where cards are used to determine the outcome of battles do not use this mechanic.
Campaign / Battle Card Driven
Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.
Dice Rolling
Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.

PAINFUL. Great in what it represents, but not playable in most group settings, with complexity up the arse and at a pace that drips as slow as molasses. There’s a reason some experiences are better off as computer games, and this is one of them. Stay away from this, unless you’re one of the few.

Backed in Kickstarter November 2019, recieved 28.01.23. Yes the rules are very complex, but totally worth it. If you like EU IV PC game, you will love the board game. I did not think it was possible to bring the PC game feeling to the board, but this game prooved me wrong. And also the quality of the game is amazing, I really recommend to get the extras (metal coins because they feel so much better than cardboard, extra bot decks, if you like the soloplay, giant play mat is always better than cardboard map. Only dices are not really necessary)

I’ve only played it solo so far so the game length hasn’t been a barrier to me yet, but I love everything about this game. The random nature of how the BOT players take events and interact in the game has made each play through feel like its own historical possibility. The only thing I would like to add is more dynamic country mechanics and maybe some expansion decks to add more rulers and events for more countries to feel flushed out.
