Card drafting games are games in which players pick cards from a limited subset, such as a common pool, to gain some advantage (immediate or longterm) or to assemble hands of cards that are used to meet objectives within the game.
Card Drafting
Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.

Sadly my gaming group didn't care for this game which I found intriguing in its simple yet rich design. Was not put off at all by components (as some were).

Excellent area majority game with a lot of turn angst! The rules are easily explained. The game play is tense!

Edit: this game really needs a redesign. I really enjoyed Ethnos when I first played it, but as I've let it sit for a while I've really cooled on it. It's essentially Ticket to Ride with a pasted-on theme, and that's just not compelling enough to make a game great. Some people may find a lot of value in the accessibility, but the simplicity of the game makes it boring, not accessible. There's absolutely nothing to sink your teeth into here. While the area control is rather interesting, I have plenty of other area control games that are not that much more complex, but far more satisfying than Ethnos, which is disappointingly linear and offers no way to move placed troops. Update: with some more experience, I much prefer the game experience of [thing=270109][/thing] et al.
