Era: Medieval Age
45m - 60m
1 - 4 Players
Ages 8+
Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.
Dice Rolling
The simultaneous action selection mechanic lets players secretly choose their actions. After they are revealed, the actions resolve following the rule-set of the game.
Simultaneous Action Selection
Maneuvers that directly attack an opposing player's strength, level, life points or do something else to impede their progress.

Fun almost-roll-and-write with fantastic production values in the plastic pieces (although the boards are iffy being yellow and hard to read). Would have liked a bit more variety in universal events or something else that crops up, but this was definitely fun with a great table presence.

Some mixed feelings on this. It’s better than any of the Roll Through the Ages stuff, which hasn’t aged that well. Simultaneous play helps a lot, as it did for Roll Through the Galaxy; unlike Roll, the player interaction is fairly limited here so simultaneous play is a big deal. I tend to like dice games more in principle than in practice, but I like Era, so that’s nice. It’s just really expensive for what it is. Plus, as boardgames have gotten more extravagant and more disposable, and as the climate crisis has become both immediate and dire, I’ve become more sensitive to whether we’re using resources wisely. This is a fun game. I don’t think it’s worth this huge amount of non-recyclable plastic. 50k units (or whatever) of Era isn’t significant compared to say, your daily commute. But waste is waste.
