Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.

I want to love this game so bad but I just don't. I bought the base game AND New Species at once, thinking I couldnt go wrong with a coop. But... There's something about the randomness of the dice (or the die) and about the fact that so many cards are similar. I'm not enjoying my plays. Tried the two base scenario and the polar bear one, from the expansion. Might try one more scenario before I sell the whole thing. But I don't get as excited as I wish when thinking about this game. In fact, I'm almost bored. It's beautiful. Love the animal meeples. The theme is nice but feels cruel. The characters boards let you choose between a feminine presenting or a masculine presenting character, which is a nice touch, though it's very binary. Also would have loved to see the expertise of Indigenous people taken into account in the roles and actions that we are making. It feels more like an economic game about power, then a game about saving endangered species. But since we are living under capitalism, it's hard to avoid, I guess. I might be missing something because it seems like people enjoy it and some people even called this "easy"?

[puzzle 3.8 replay 4 invest 3.5 solo 5] note: the theme/art probably adds additional 1.5 to the rating

Endangered is an amazing game! The theme is important and has been excellently integrated into the game mechanics. It's always challenging without becoming frustrating. The alpha leader problem cannot come into play here either, since everyone has their own hand of cards here. And with the numerous scenarios from the expansion, there is a high degree of variability and a high level of replay appeal. Whether as a solo game or in groups, for me the best cooperative game next to Spirit Island. It's a shame it hasn't been discovered by that many yet, because it definitely deserves more attention.
