Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.

Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
Play occurs upon a modular board that is composed of multiple pieces, often tiles or cards. In many games, board placement is randomized, leading to different possibilities for strategy and exploration. Some games in this category have multiple boards which are not used simultaneously, preserving table space. Unused boards remain out of play until they are required.

My company really tried to love this game and we actually did it. There were some disappointing moments like game length (it seems too short to develop your race and use its unique techs in full) or like the board, where planets were moving and rotating when somebody accidentally touched them which was frustrating. I liked the theme and strategy with pick-up mission and with events. I liked rules for liberation which are not in rulebook but proposed by game designer himself. I would recommend this to people who love space theme and love medium weight games
Big B
Conflicted about this one. Mechanically it's satisfying, I like the various areas to focus on to get VP, and the art of course is wonderful, as are the components. But it's really short for this type of game, you don't get many moves in per game. Oh and the set up time is quite long, which is a terrible combo. Good, but flawed in some critical ways.

Session report to come. Let's call it a beautiful beast, unique and complex rules for a uniquely rich sci fi experience. Niche: Adventure / Space Opera Justification: 4X slot
