Interesting minimalist game that has some wargame dimension. Strategy is a bit straightforward but still a great filler.

Area control and set collection tick just the right boxes for me. And this one plays fast too although not in 8 minutes. Perhaps 8 minutes per player would be more appropriate. I liked how quickly the rules were explained but still the game succeeded in offering meaningful decisions almost every round. You are balancing your actions between denying things from opponents and gaining yourself. It is this kind of trade-offs I especially enjoy in games. My only concern about the game is, that with a little bad luck you might achieve close to nothing in the game. You are expected to lay cubes and spread them across the map. However, your actions are strictly limited to the options available on the 6 visible cards. If you do not get the right actions, there is nothing you can do about it. In our game, I experienced a couple of rounds that did not benefit me at all and I can imagine a scenario where you get nothing done in the whole game. Luckily the game does not last too long. Complaints I have about the board that is too small to accommodate all the cubes comfortably without a risk of losing track of where they belong. In the end I enjoyed the game. With no major flaws it is clearly game that deserves to be played.

A few mechanisms which are exploited (in a good way) and stuffed into a game which only lasts about 25 minutes! Ultimately sold it because I also own the Legends version, which is the better game for me.
