This mechanic requires you to place a bid, usually monetary, on items in an auction of goods in order to enhance your position in the game. These goods allow players future actions or improve a position. The auction consists of taking turns placing bids on a given item until one winner is established, allowing the winner to take control of the item being bid on. Usually there is a game rule that helps drop the price of the items being bid on if no players are interested in the item at its current price.
Auction/Bidding

This game is exceptional - it's long been a legend for reason. Each faction has its own strength and weaknesses, including several rule-breaking abilities. As a result the game feels totally different depending on which faction you play as. But there's so much depth and strategy in the game that even if you played as the same faction every single time, you can keep discovering new ways to exploit your factions abilities. In other words, it's that rare game that actually gets considerably better once everyone playing understands just how much of a threat everyone else is. While the mechanics of the game are interesting in and of themselves, once players start realizing all the creative ways they can leverage those faction advantages, the game reaches another level altogether. For instance, if your faction is particularly good at combat, you can get people to pay you not to attack them. Or if your faction knows most of the cards in the hands of other players, you can sell that information. The game also does an incredible job of conveying the setting and theme of the novel, from beautifully illustrated house leader tokens to conveying the harshness of the desert with both storms and sandworms. On top of all that, the alliance component is fascinating. You never know when the opportunity to make or break an alliance will come about, or if it will at all. As a result you have to both prepare yourself too get the best possible ally as well as be aware that you might need to go for a solo win. All in all, it's a fantastic game that, like Chess, only gets better the more you play it and understand its subtleties.

A grail game of mine and thanks to GF9 I was finally able to play. Remarkably it didn't disappoint. Even with all the hype and years of anticipation it still met my expectations. My most well deserved and easiest earned 10/10

I don't understand how such a game has quite high rating. It is slow, and doesn't make sense most of the time. I would say that, when, if I win, it will still be a bad game. Too much unbalance across the players and not that enjoyable.
