Die Hard: The Nakatomi Heist Board Game
60m - 90m
2 - 4 Players
Ages 15+
The Campaign/Battle Card Driven mechanic is a relatively recent development in war games that focuses the players' actions on cards they have in their hand. The very basic idea is that performing a single action uses a single card. Games where cards are used to determine the outcome of battles do not use this mechanic.
Campaign / Battle Card Driven
Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.
Dice Rolling
Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
The simultaneous action selection mechanic lets players secretly choose their actions. After they are revealed, the actions resolve following the rule-set of the game.

Feels like McClane and the terrorists are playing to entirely separate games a lot of times, rules a bit unclear. Ok game but wouldn't be in a rush to play again.

not sure about this one. Seems a little bit on rails and the McClane character might be a bit OP? Not fair to judge after only one play though so will revisit this if it gets a few more.

Heavily scripted -- meaning each act has a bunch of objectives that force you to do moments from the movie in order. That heavily limits the replay value. Tons of fiddly rules each act. Also SUPER gamey. Killing Hans means pushing him off the ledge, and you can't kill him by shooting or punching alone. But every time you shoot or punch him, you can move him one space closer to the ledge?! It's elevated above unplayability by two things: the thief action selection mechanism, which leads to some humorous moments of reading your fellow thieves' minds; and also the clever way in which the board expands, and each act has different hazards/obstacles to dodge bullets etc. The lock mechanism is not bad too, once you figure it out Only recommended for big fans of the movie. Casual game groups will need at least one player who is experienced w/. modern boardgames to teach the fiddly rules.
