Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
Play occurs upon a modular board that is composed of multiple pieces, often tiles or cards. In many games, board placement is randomized, leading to different possibilities for strategy and exploration. Some games in this category have multiple boards which are not used simultaneously, preserving table space. Unused boards remain out of play until they are required.

Such a great and underrated game. Plays well for two people and scales perfectly since it includes extra pieces for larger player counts. Lots of replayability and pieces to use (wooden buildings and cards) which makes the game very kinesthetic

I like creating combos of cards and how the turns go quite fast. The best part is trying to figure out, how to play your hand to make the most out of it. However, in the end I am not too fond of this one, no. It just feels a bit cheap when you can discard your whole hand of cards to get the resources you need and even some extra. The game allows you to build an engine but why bother. Just discard a bunch of cards, get resources, replenish your hand and play the best scoring cards you got. I also have a feeling that the game was play tested with a group of players thinking too similarly. To be more precise, I honestly do not see why anyone would bother building more than a maximum of 2 or in extreme cases 3 buildings onto one spot, since essentially you are still racing to raid the barbarian villages and finish the game while trying to grab as many odd points as possible along the way. But still there are cards in the deck that require you to have up to 5 buildings in one single space. The only case I can envisage such a thing happening would require a player to be cornered without any possibilities of expanding. This is due to the fact, that building onto the same spot where you already are, does not usually help your progress. Maybe I just do not understand the game well enough. I can play but would not suggest DEUS myself.
