I wish more expansions were designed like this one. It does not bloat the game. It does not give you extra modules to use. Instead, it replaces the deck from the base game basically giving you a second version of Deus to play.

I really like the base game, and rank it an 8. However in my opinion the expansion just detracts from the game, and undoes everything that is great about it, which is simplicity and elegance. See, the expansion adds extra rules and extra tokens that make the game more complex, but doesn't really make it any deeper. It actually even sometimes makes it even more tactical because players are more constrained (for instance, due to limited space for resources). It also makea the game more luck dependent. Togo one by one: - Blue cards: boars can move, which is great. The trading they allow is pretty meh, and then if you don't combine it with green cards, it doesn't work - Green cards: they make good production, but then the fact that you can only store that much, doesn't allow to hoard resources or produce a lot, which then beats the purpose. - Yellow cards: OK I did like these ones. They are better than the boring ones from the base game. Would likely always play with them. - Brown cards: the scribe token mechanism is aweful and unnecessary. - Red cards: you only activate each card once in practice, so you don't get the stacking mechanism that makes Deus fun... this is horrible. - Temples: I like these because they give in-game bonuses. However if you only play with these, then you kill the final scoring which made the base game so tense and cool. I would play with 6 of these and 12 of the old ones. Or maybe 8 / 8. So yeah, the base game is quite elegant and we'll balanced and this just throws it off. Would not recommend.
