What absolute garbage. 180 dollars for a App. How about reprint Descent Jotd 2nd Ed instead of making all of that irrelevant in the future installments.

I approached Descent Legends of the Dark with... caution. I read and listened a lot about it before deciding to acquire a copy, but I wasn’t sure it would suit my tastes. It did, in a surprisingly positive way. First and foremost: the app. It works marvelously, like no other before. It truly builds upon the shoulders of those used for Mansions of Madness and Journeys. It’s smooth, it keeps track of everything, it’s wonderfully integrated with the game. It creates the first working paperboard/digital game hybrid, allowing for effects (like buffing and various modifiers) that wouldn’t reasonably be trackable without the app. Of course, if one is a paperboard purist, should steer away. Second: the 3D terrain. Far for being a(n expensive) gimmick, it’s finely integrated with the game flow and truly contributes to the gaming experience. Another positive surprise. The gameplay itself is enjoyable, smooth, and the focus remains on the board, with the app acting as a game master and aid in the background. The mechanics do work, and the game is an enjoyable tactical puzzle with exploration. The crafting between sessions is compelling and adds a dimension only digital games could offer until yesterday. The whole art and presentation is amazing, and I really like the new direction taken (but I disliked the previous aesthetics of Terrinoth). The miniatures are CMON quality and way above the previous FFG standard. The game is far not perfect, though. The dialogues feel very “meh” and could’ve easily been made much better and really interesting. The campaign as a whole? To be evaluated. The price? Before buying it felt too much. Now that I tried the game, I am not so sure anymore. An app this good costs a lot, and can’t recoup money through a bazillion sales... so it must be factored in the box price. 175€ MSRP, in retrospective, is probably fine.

Only reason I didnt give it a 10 is that I had trouble with building the chests (bent a couple the wrong way and they are falling to pieces as a result). The app is good without you spending all your time looking at it. It looks amazing set up but does need a big table!
