2 - 5 Players

In programming, every player must secretly choose and commit their moves for the next 'n' turns. Then each player plays their turns out according to the choices made. The key to Action / Movement Programming is that all players choose and lock in their actions, prior to anyone executing any of their actions.
Action / Movement Programming
Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.
Dice Rolling
Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
Games where you repeat an action (or part of an action) until you decide to stop due to increased (or not) risk of losing points or your turn.
Press your Luck
The simultaneous action selection mechanic lets players secretly choose their actions. After they are revealed, the actions resolve following the rule-set of the game.
Simultaneous Action Selection
Maneuvers that directly attack an opposing player's strength, level, life points or do something else to impede their progress.
Take That
Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.

Very fun pirate game that plays like a pirate game should. Lots of battles, ghost ships, treasure hunting and booty. I love the action selection on the cards mechanism. Reminds me of star wars queen's gambit and it was a favourite mechanism for me there too. Absolutely stunning components and artwork.

Deluxe components. Rating after initial play. Will definitely get more time at the table. Theme comes out incredibly strong, component quality is top notch (helped, though, by the metal coins, plastic jewels, wooden tokens etc.), and art is vibrant, colorful and full of fantasy pirate flavor. Game has a very heavy "take that" element combined with programmed movement that allows for some degree of post-programming choice, but ultimately comes down to trying to predict where your opponents will go to either avoid them or hunt them down. Really like the fact that you never get completely blocked out of doing anything even if your program doesn't work out exactly as planned. Turns flow very quickly and game keeps momentum and excitement all the way through. There are random/luck based elements all throughout the game, but don't reach the point of making the player feel they have no agency. Overall, this is a game for people who like fun, exciting Ameritrash experiences that fully immerse you in theme. What I mean by that is you won't be planning out 5 turns in advance (you literally can't), building an engine or anything like that. Good planning can be rewarded, but the core of the game is more about creating dramatic moments around the table. If you can appreciate that sort of game experience, then this comes highly recommended. As noted above: will need a few more plays of this, but my rating and review here is my initial impression. All present at the session seemed to agree on the game's strengths.
