Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.

Not a bad game - I like it - and loving Coraline certainly helps. But what the heck happened to the graphic design and component decisions? Such a visually rich film and this is the best they could do? Exact same image of either Coraline or the Other Mother on each card in their respective decks? A folded paper “map” for a board that’s just purple with the game logo on it? And then you lay the location cards (which never move...) on top of it? It’s just weird...and frustrating due to the missed opportunity to capture more of the visual charm and appeal of the movie.

I’m waiting to rate this until I’ve played it a few more times. At first play, I played it single player and it just feels like it will work best as single player... we’ll see once I play it with more people. One big issue I have is that while the movie is so beautiful with so many stunning images, this game has a striking lack of artwork. There are three decks - a moon deck (6 cards that can trigger the end of the game), a Coraline deck (you use this to move, reveal objects, collect objects, bring new characters into play), and a Beldam or Other Mother deck. The issue I have is that both the Coraline deck and the Other Mother deck take up most of the game and all the cards have the exact same artwork, just different text. I don’t know... just seems like a huge missed opportunity...

Pretty cheap components, including a folded paper board. The card play works in such a way that it is only possible to win if the correct card is drawn at the correct time with no way to mitigate the draw. Very Poor implementation
