Card drafting games are games in which players pick cards from a limited subset, such as a common pool, to gain some advantage (immediate or longterm) or to assemble hands of cards that are used to meet objectives within the game.
Card Drafting
Deck building/Pool building refers to a collection of related mechanisms. Players have a personal pool, or collection, of cards or tokens, that provide different actions and/or resources. A subset of those cards/tokens are randomly drawn each turn.
Deck / Pool Building
Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
Games with partnerships offer players a set of rules for alliances and teams. Partners are often able to win as a team, or penalties are enforced for not respecting alliances

This game is amazing! It was not on my radar until the Venus version was released, but, so far I've only played the original with the Salsa expansion. I lost miserably, but loved every minute of it--so much strategy, so many agonizing choices, so well-thought out as a strategy game. Can't wait to get my own copy and play again! (2019-09-06) Own it. Played it. Love it! Something about this game makes it very satisfying, win or lose. Wonderful balance of choices and requirements. A pleasure to play every time. (2019-12-06)

Concordia is such an elegant design. The fluidity of everyone's turns coupled with the simplicity of each card's effect - all while maintaining deeply strategic and interesting decisions. In that very specific way, this game reminds me of Brass. The game is held back a little by its scoring. In some ways, not being able to tell who is clearly winning is a positive. You never know if you're out of the running, so you always play with the spirit of a serious contender. For me, this aspect makes me a little more unaware and unassuming than I'd like to be. I appreciate a clearly evident threat to keep me sharp. Also, unless you are using relatively small maps, player interaction (which in this game consists almost entirely of your opponent purchasing cards you want and/or making it more expensive to build in certain cities) is minimal.

I do like how you have to sort of understand two board states - paying attention to what you and your partner can do. However, what can happen is nothing. I wish there was a 'pass' option (don't do the card your partner played) and get some token resource. As it is, it's like playing Concordia but sometimes you just get less actions than other players.
