Codex: Card-Time Strategy – Starter Set
45m - 45m
2 - 2 Players
Ages 13+
Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.

Great for learning the game, as it scales it down to about a third of the choices in cards and heroes. As a result, not as interesting as the full game is, but also not overwhelming for new players.

I did not want to like a Sirlin game but it's actually good. Kind of what I wanted Mage Wars: Academy to be. Don't see the "RTS: the Card Game" stuff though. Pretty standard dueling mages stuff. Wish it had better art.

xxG. Really good Sirlin game that showcases his strength as a designer of asymmetry. The RTS video game style of play works well and adds some depth to the otherwise well-worn head-to-head battling genre. Only played the starter set so far; I've picked up the core set but haven't tried it yet.
