Codex: Card-Time Strategy – Core Set
45m - 45m
2 - 5 Players
Ages 13+
Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.

Red/Green, plus tokens, counters, etc. See Deluxe Set listing for my thoughts on a whole. I like red as a destruction type faction, but dinosaurs in green is pretty intriguing.

I'm not sure what to rate it yet, but this is such a beautifully designed game. I bought the full set after playing it once with my friend. Layers and layers of depth without being too complicated. It's a game that reminds me that we live in a board game golden age. It's just an intense two player game that requires some practice. I don't play CCGs or LCGs often, so the thing I struggle with most is navigating the brevity of the rules and card text. There are a lot of turns of phrase that could really burn you if you misinterpret or forget. I would want to have my whole set if I ever got stranded on a desert island with someone so that I would never, ever, get bored, but it's hard to recruit/train a group that you can focus on a game like that with.

The game seems like it could be fun but the rule book is HORRIBLE. The game mechanics are not self explanatory and the rules do not address many of the questions you will encounter when learning the game.
