An essential expansie for Civilization: A New Dawn. This adds a ton of content to this game. It really should have been released with the base game from the beginning. It adds a completely new way to handle combat. Combat is much less abstract since this expansion uses actual armies to move around the board. It allows players to explore the map with their armies and caravans. It adds forts, governments, a larger more interesting event dial, a larger focus row, and more variety in the wonders, civilizations, objectives, and diplomacy cards. An excellent expansion!

No. Ignore the hype and think carefully. This expansion hurts the base game. Exploration is a joke, since you are incentivized to explore _away_ from other people. Armies are plain silly, since it is now more difficult to deal with barbarians, plus it is now near impossible to be a threat to other players. The abstract nature of military presence in the base game was _much_ better. Governments and districts may sound cool, but they make an already fast game behave like it is on speed. Run-away leader problems are magnified, and if you play against new people you will actively have to sandbag. If you really want a "true to Civ" board game, track down Clash of Cultures (whichever version). That has proper exploration, military and tech trees. If you want a "nice and quick" light Civ game, stick with the base game.

Just like everyone is saying, this is a great expansion. One new aspect, Districts, stand out as requiring a disproportionate amount of effort to deal with, but they do neat things. The other additions blend seamlessly with the original design. This is how the game should have been to begin with. To bad it wasn't. It probably would have gotten a lot of buzz.
