Co-operative play encourages or requires players to work together to beat the game.
Cooperative Play
Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
Play occurs upon a modular board that is composed of multiple pieces, often tiles or cards. In many games, board placement is randomized, leading to different possibilities for strategy and exploration. Some games in this category have multiple boards which are not used simultaneously, preserving table space. Unused boards remain out of play until they are required.
Modular Board
Tile Placement games feature placing a piece to score VPs, with the amount often based on adjacent pieces or pieces in the same group/cluster, and keying off non-spatial properties like color, "feature completion", cluster size etc.
Tile Placement
Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.

There is a good game here but the road to get there is painful. The rulebook is a mess and incomplete. In the first 2 games half the time was spent looking things up in the rulebook and online.

Hate the way this rulebook is laid out. This was a hard game to learn, for some reason. The mechanisms are interesting. I like rotating the cards when used to make a new ability available. I like the shifting of the boards, and I like the overall look of the game. That said, I don't think I can get myself to play this one again. It's very possible I didn't manage my character properly, but I never felt that any turns (of anyone I played with) yielded powerful moves that gave the game an epic feel. I really wanted to like this game. I even painted the figures. But I just can't.

Great idea. Unique world. Needed better editing/playtesting/design when it comes to the details of how the game plays out. Feels like it was 2/3 of the way done when it was published. Could have been a hit if someone had been patient and taken it all the way.
