This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

A game that you have to be very deliberate and patient with, since it is mostly about programming your turns. Studying the board state is important, but it also won't solve everything for you because it can be relatively fluid based on player desires, but this game will be slow. I feel like a five player game with players who all know the rules is an unachievable dream since it would take so much time to get there, but the ordering and the building of the board demand higher player counts. It's satisfying, but I don't know if it's worth the wait for the game it is. I had some issues with the production, as well. The images of the characters in the rulebook are cropped closer, which led to some confusion when trying to identify them, and calling a rules reference on the back of the rules "player aids" does not actually mean there are player aids. This game's order of operations are so strict and important I feel like player aids would certainly be helpful for first time players at least, especially since they made the game language independent. Additionally, I love Andrew Bosley art, but the art is way too friendly for this game. There is something of a tonal mismatch that isn't negligible, since the game is *very* mean and the art is cheery as all get out.

Despite hearing nothing but positive reviews from self-avowed Caylus fans, my group seemed to hate this. I still haven't tried it yet but I kept both versions just in case
