Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.
Dice Rolling
Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.
Variable Player Powers
This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

DECEBO
Good expansion with a lot of stuff: new characters, new buildings and the option to play with outlaws; the good thing to me is that rules and gameplay do not change much, only more variation is offered.
candoo
Very provisional rating. Based on one play of the yellow sided characters without any new buildings, townhouses or outlaws. The yellow sided characters in a 3 player game were not as good as the characters from the base game. Several of them were not viable options, so they never got chosen. If you really like the base game, then you will get this. Otherwise, it is not an essential expansion. After 5 plays, really not liking the expansion. The outlaws dictate to playing only one strategy. We played without the outlaws and the new buildings and characters are just so meh. Downgrade from 8 to 6.

At first glance, there really isn't that much to this expansion. I mean, you only get the rules, 2 cardboard sheets with cards, tiles and counters and 9 cowboy meeples. And that's it. But you'll get a lot of play value out of those pieces. 7 new personality cards, several new buildings, bandits... lots of fun to add to the already great base game. If you love Carson City, you'll love this expansion.
