Burano
90m - 120m
2 - 4 Players
Ages 12+
This mechanic usually requires players to pick up an item or good at one location on the playing board and bring it to another location on the playing board. Initial placement of the item can be either predetermined or random. The delivery of the good usually gives the player money to do more actions with. In most cases, there is a game rule or another mechanic that determines where the item needs to go.
Pick-up and Deliver
The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.

Clearly a game designed by those who love and admire Euro games - but without the polish. The graphical design is a mess which does not help matters. The system of stacking cubes and roofs is certainly fetching, but the rest of the game is a large homage to Feld games and yet without understanding *why* such mechanics are placed in a game. Some of the roof card rewards seemed to countermand the very fabric of the game: there's a place where breaking rules just makes the game silly. Burano is a golem of a Feld game - clumsier and faintly reminiscent, but not really alive.

Worker Placement/Other / Italian historical city-building theme Culled; Overly convoluted. Pretty, but I did not find it compelling or tense enough.

Trajan is one of my favorite games, and I can see why people might compare this to it: there are multi-turn layers of planning on several parts of the board: clearing cubes on your player board, setting up cubes on the main board, planning fishing and lace actions based on color adjacencies, etc. But this game feels clunky: lots of little rules, too much bookkeeping, and spending an action just to move a cube one inch on your board is anticlimactic. Some of the building powers also don't seem very balanced. I liked a lot of mechanics here, but I'll need to play again to see if this will ultimately rise or fall for me. UPDATE: This fell after another play. There is simply too much randomness for the amount of strategic thought required, especially in the roof and fish draws, which can really swing the game. Sorry, this is no Trajan.
