This mechanic requires you to place a bid, usually monetary, on items in an auction of goods in order to enhance your position in the game. These goods allow players future actions or improve a position. The auction consists of taking turns placing bids on a given item until one winner is established, allowing the winner to take control of the item being bid on. Usually there is a game rule that helps drop the price of the items being bid on if no players are interested in the item at its current price.

A great game with a natural flow. You build momentum as it progresses. the motif and artwork is really good stuff and makes the game play that much more fun. Am looking forward to the expansion Cut throat where you can possibly sabotage your opponents turns!

*Edit: Turns out the reviews are not fake they are merely what players felt the game is worth to them after some play through, and the game was mainly introduced to a local community which explains why the reviews and scores came all from a single place. The designer is a nice guy and the love for boardgames shows through his game, anyway games will always appeal to some and not to others, take it or leave it I say.

A friend of mine bought this game after the designers gave us a demo at Orccon gaming convention, and I am happy that he did. This is a bidding, resource management game, with every player having a different role, each of which gives a different ability. There are two ways to get resources: bidding and buying in the marketplace. I liked that you did not always have enough money to get what you wanted, so you had to be careful to not bid too much. Having different options of buildings to build is important so that you are not stuck not building if someone outbids you for a resource you are hoping for. Each building is represented by a plan, which is a card that shows what resources (there are five types) are needed to build it, how much prestige (whoever has the most prestige at the end wins) the building is worth, how much income it generates when visited, the number of visitors it can accommodate, and which of four types the building is (there is a game end bonus for every one of four regions you control). Event cards and visitors add some randomness, as does the order of citizens that come to live in Blankenburg. Which citizens are in Blankenburg influence which buildings produce income. I liked the strategic aspect of having to pay attention to which citizens are in the town and which resources are more available to match up with available building plans. I also like the luck aspect of events and visitors, although it is not too much luck. Having to adapt to a temporary change is part of the fun of this game. This is a beautiful game that our gaming group had a lot of fun playing. It will definitely be put into our regular rotation of games played. We used to play games as a family before our children grew up and moved out. I am sure they would have enjoyed it, as well. The only reason I am not giving it a 10 rating is that I reserve that for games I have played for a long time which are my favorites.
