This mechanic requires you to place a bid, usually monetary, on items in an auction of goods in order to enhance your position in the game. These goods allow players future actions or improve a position. The auction consists of taking turns placing bids on a given item until one winner is established, allowing the winner to take control of the item being bid on. Usually there is a game rule that helps drop the price of the items being bid on if no players are interested in the item at its current price.

A great game with a natural flow. You build momentum as it progresses. the motif and artwork is really good stuff and makes the game play that much more fun. Am looking forward to the expansion Cut throat where you can possibly sabotage your opponents turns!

Wow was this game random. I played two player and basically every single thing went my way. I guess on average things should be more even, but the point is that luck can be a huge influence on the game. You get random buildings to build and random citizens come out to stay in them so you need to hope that these things match up. And then there are the events and visitors, one of each of which comes out every turn, and these can really help or hurt one player basically through no fault of their own. It really was incredible how one-sidedly everything went in my game, where at one point when my opponent sort of started to stage a comeback I thought about how embarrassed I'd have been if it ended up even close. It didn't, I think I won 35 to 21, and I'm convinced that had nothing to do with how I played. And I'm not even convinced that the core gameplay would be all that interesting even if it was a lot less random. It's pretty uninspired, you buy resources to build buildings that get you money to buy more resources to build more buildings, etc. And then the buildings are also worth points.
