Pattern Building is a system where players place game components in specific patterns in order to gain specific or variable game results. For example: placing chips on 2, 4, 6, 8 on a board gets the player an action card they can use later in the game.
Pattern Building
The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.
Set Collection
Tile Placement games feature placing a piece to score VPs, with the amount often based on adjacent pieces or pieces in the same group/cluster, and keying off non-spatial properties like color, "feature completion", cluster size etc.

Excellent first game from the creator.Stunning art and theme is a draw. Good flow to the game but it's thinky and puzzly so it can take a while.Super components get the art book if you can it adds a lot to the theme and immersion .I got the player boards and they are fantastic as is the main board. Cards are great as are gems , only the player aids are useless. The game hinges on doing spells early and if you don't any you are knackered , late on do the rite. There is an expansion planned need another way to get points.Nice flow to the game and it meets teh theme well. Well put together

This has the potential of going up to a 9 with the upcoming expansion. https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/2851338/our-boardgame-story-betwixt-and-between-2-player-r

Interesting "thinky" game with quite some player interaction. The game lasts 3x4 turns. In those turns, every player places (drafted) tiles onto the beautiful map which in turn allow them to get certain resources aka magic crystals (if you manage to harvest them with your Mystic before another player picks them up). Some tiles also allow map actions if Mystics step on them. The resources, in turn, allow you to fulfill spells i.e. activating spell cards (by placing the collected resources onto a personal player grid, creating different patterns with them). Those spell cards give victory points and additional benefits. By cleverly picking spell cards and cleverly placing the resources on the matrix, players can activate several spell cards with as little resources / crystals as possible. Since there are only 12 turns for each player, and resources are scarce, each turn has to be as efficient as possible. Player interaction: a) drafting of map tiles (allowing for resources, map actions, and/or bonus cards). b) tunnels on some map tiles which allow you to more easily access the other player's areas on the map (to either grab resources from their tiles or to activate a tile they have placed) c) at the end of 4 turns, each player destroys a tile from the map - e.g. one from an opponent. d) block map tiles by stepping on them (prevent the opponents to activate the map action) d) other possibilities to shape / reshape the map tiles Complaint: the magic board (grid where players place their crystals to resolve spell cards) should have been double-layered. As-is, with the flimsy thin card board, it is very easy to accidentally mess up the crystal patterns on the board by touching it.
