Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management

I wanted to love this game. The art attracted me to it, and the art is great, though it's mostly just on the relic and monster cards, but you get to see very few of those per game. But the game play left a lot to be desired. It's very much a random encounter game, and that can make some encounters impossible. We played one encounter where the blight lord nor his monsters had any basic attack abilities, but the mission dragged on and on because he kept healing all the damage we were doing even though he couldn't hurt us. Eventually we managed to eke out a win, and the next encounter he had a hidden monster that was summoning creatures faster than we could kill them, which was impossible to beat. The encounter deck is also weird. 3 are dealt out and the players blindly choose one, but the only information they have to go on is that the encounter deck has a couple of different backs on cards, so there wasn't really any detailed information for making the choice. I would play it again, but you have to take it lightly. I also got the expansion, but it just has a handful of cards to add to the decks, so it's fairly inconsequential.

Fun game! Hard to find in stores and hard to find people who know it. Easy to play, but very hard to play the first time because (and this is key problem with this game) the instructions/ grammar/ text commands are SOOO minimal and unrefined. Therefore, the game leaves a lot of rules/resolves up to interpretation unless you have a pre-established 'set' of rules for your play group. Additionally, the creator website does not appear to have been updated since the game was released, and the only expansion adds no substantial or desired viable content. That being said, it IS a good and fun game worth picking up, just needs an updated version released with rule fixes and expansions with added Heroes and Blight Lords.

Enjoyed playing a demo of this at Indie Hangover 2016, but my issue with it is that I am not big on playing multiple characters to make a game playable. The games needs three where we normally play 2, so this had to be a pass.
