Play occurs upon a modular board that is composed of multiple pieces, often tiles or cards. In many games, board placement is randomized, leading to different possibilities for strategy and exploration. Some games in this category have multiple boards which are not used simultaneously, preserving table space. Unused boards remain out of play until they are required.
Modular Board
This mechanic usually requires players to pick up an item or good at one location on the playing board and bring it to another location on the playing board. Initial placement of the item can be either predetermined or random. The delivery of the good usually gives the player money to do more actions with. In most cases, there is a game rule or another mechanic that determines where the item needs to go.

Gamer DC
Has some really nice depth to it especially in planning ahead and resource management. Not so easy to win. The campaign variant is very good and allows you to experience all the cards.

Nice cooperative tower-defense game with elegant rules. It feels a bit like a mix of "Castle Panic" and "Ghost Stories". You move your hero around collecting mana in various colors to kill monsters, occasionally building a structure or gaining an artifact. Also, each defeated monster becomes a useful spell. There is a lot of icons, but you will not see them all in one game and they are surprisingly easy to learn. They contribute to the dynamic gameplay, and I'm thankful that there is no text that you must read again and again in order to remember what the cards do. My only gripe is that the game feels disappointingly abstract. The monsters just line up against the castle walls and don't actually attack or do damage, neither to the castle nor to the heroes. There is no thematic explanation for each enemy being vulnerable only to mana of a specific color. And the endgame is very weird: when there is a single enemy left, it has to be killed in the next turn or you lose the game. I'm positively impressed with the production, particularly the card art, featuring a unique piece of illustration for each of the many monsters. The plastic miniatures for the heroes in the Z-Man version are also pretty good. In fact, I suspect this edition was produced by Fantasy Flight, mainly for the marbled plastic disks, used in a few of their games and even sold separately, but the box insert is also very much in their style.

Played a lot with my kid, hence the good rating. Would not play with adults... Or only as a solitaire game (which means the same in a different way)
