Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.

Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.
Variable Player Powers
This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

nice game- has feelings of pandemic. May also end up feeling a bit samey as the peninsulas will stay the same as will the misfortune deck (works like the deck in pandemic), so actions are the same. To be fair this is a potential limitation of most worker placement games; variability is offered with the library cards and the object tiles you build to win the game. Actually the misfortune deck has alot of variability on second play -way more than the pandemic deck. Playing with 5 also ramped up the sense of jeopardy as more misfortune cards were being flipped... Surprisingly enjoyed at 5 players.

It's maybe a bit fiddly for what it is but it's really beautiful and it's a really solid game if you take the time to learn it.

Decent coop. Relatively simple mechanically. Mainly resource management puzzle while racing the clock on flooding tiles
