Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.
Dice Rolling
Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.
Variable Player Powers
This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

A beautiful game, but it’s kind of limited after you experience the tight ending once or twice. The character powers don’t give as much variety as in Pandemic. I’d rather play Pandemic for a lightweight, tense co-op experience basically.

#bgstats 1st Impressions: Bias Alert — I don't do Co-ops too much! I tried this because it was so pretty... and that was the best part of the game for me. The art, components, board, everything was fantastic, inviting and added to the theme and the believability. If you are like me and don't care like co-ops because of long discussions over what to do next, then this game won't change anything. Another significant problem I had with the game is that it features one of my other top-hated mechanisms — roll to resolve. If I was not co-op averse, the rating would be higher, but not a lot because the roll to resolve.

Garish cover, decent materials. This is a fine co-op, with a decent learning curve and an appropriate level of tension. Cooperation is unproblematic, with no significant hidden information, luck is present but feels manageable. Ho-hum. One can play this. One can play a lot of co-ops. Not sure why I would choose this over another tbh.
