This opinion is currently being revisited. I still believe this game to be somewhat of an LCG lite; however, that does not mean it cannot have a place as such a game (possibly precon and draft only to make it accessable to more players) A "competitive" card game that introduces further variance and luck through dice..... I could say more, but I need not. This without a doubt is one of my largest disappointments.

This seemed like fun idea to me when released, but the game feels like a war of attrition with the same creatures repeatedly being played.

Second edition, having played the first and then having the owner trade the copy away before we could really get into it, based on table time possibility, we BOTH wanted a copy of this again between us. A little headier than I usually like my deckbuilders (Love the genre as a whole, but skipped Magic on purpose, not Pokémon though, go figure) the addition of the wonderful chunky dice and the overall thematic boost they give to the crunchy game play make this one a standout for me. Also Isaac Vega is a fantastic designer and I am picking up what he and Plaid hat are putting down here. This one has the chops to go deep and get serious. While the addition of dice gamifies an otherwise deep and heavy card battler by refocusing the usual genre randomness added to resource production so that it is not tied to the deck players have built is a main draw for me personally. However it is also most likely the culprit as to why it had so little penetration with the Magic crowd back in the day. This is a shame, because this is an "as deep as they come" system, in an incredibly novel presentation with fantastic production and best in industry art! Also Kudos to Plaid Hat by NOT invalidating those hold over fans from 1st ed, in releasing a version upgrade pack, well done indeed! I will cover this one to a more proper amount that it deserved from me on its initial release in 2015 this time around, stay tuned.
