Card drafting games are games in which players pick cards from a limited subset, such as a common pool, to gain some advantage (immediate or longterm) or to assemble hands of cards that are used to meet objectives within the game.
Card Drafting
The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.
Set Collection
Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.
Variable Player Powers
This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

Good worker placement game with a lot of different strategies. The upfront worker load you have at the start makes it unique in the mechanism although I find it harder to get to the table because of all the good worker placements out there. Still a very solid game. Edit: After a few more plays it doesn't encourage me to go back to it as much as I find in other solid worker placements so I've reduced my score to reflect that.

I'm not a fan of resource management or contracts mechanics, but I really like this game. I believe that the reason is, 1) the rules are so simple and turns are so quick, 2) it uses the resources and contracts more as the engines of what feels like a race with lots of fun interactions with other players. I love the turn-by-turn, without rounds, and the prison mechanics, it's terrific!

Playing at 2-player felt a bit too loose, there wasn't a lot of competition for spots if both went different directions (church or black market). This is likely due to not knowing the intricacies of the game, but it still felt disappointing. I suspect that with higher player counts, there would be some tension and competition and more emergent gameplay, but I wasn't thrilled with the two 2p plays to invest the time in hopes that it becomes better. Would not need to own, might play again.
