Card drafting games are games in which players pick cards from a limited subset, such as a common pool, to gain some advantage (immediate or longterm) or to assemble hands of cards that are used to meet objectives within the game.
Card Drafting
The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.
Set Collection
Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.
Variable Player Powers
This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

December 2022 - 7 - 5+ plays + Fun worker placement game with a twist of capturing opponents workers + Really like the virtue track where if you are "bad" you get tax breaks (tax evasion) but can't work on the cathedral, while if you are "good" you need to pay your taxes and can't go to the black market for quick rewards + Unique player powers give nice variety + Like adding more workers to a space to get better rewards while making it more tempting for opponents to capture your giant stack of workers = Expansions integrate nicely (prefer Artisans) without drastically changing the game - It isn't too difficult if you plan ahead to swing from bad to good at the end of the game to quickly boost your score. I feel like it would be more interesting to really get locked into the bad side if you spent the majority of the game down there and have to make up the point difference by other means as a result.

Playing at 2-player felt a bit too loose, there wasn't a lot of competition for spots if both went different directions (church or black market). This is likely due to not knowing the intricacies of the game, but it still felt disappointing. I suspect that with higher player counts, there would be some tension and competition and more emergent gameplay, but I wasn't thrilled with the two 2p plays to invest the time in hopes that it becomes better. Would not need to own, might play again.

A light-to-medium weight worker placement game where you get more actions/resources based on the number of workers on spots. One of the noteworthy mechanics is the ability to capture/bounce workers from the board. It is a clever way to police other players' workers as well as return your own workers. Reputation is also handled in an interesting way. Lower reputation gives cheaper deals and shady acquisitions at the expense of endgame VP and cathedral rewards. Higher reputation allows presence in the church and possible debt forgiveness, but being an upstanding citizen means you have to do gross stuff like pay taxes. Outside of those mechanics Architects is pretty standard fare. Build a tableau of allies to optimize your strategy. Utilize resources to construct buildings and move up various tracks in the pursuit of VP. Note: I prefer playing with the asymmetric powers/setup at the onset. The separate starts show-off the different directions you can pursue in the game. Symmetric starts makes the game more sandbox-y.
