Play occurs upon a modular board that is composed of multiple pieces, often tiles or cards. In many games, board placement is randomized, leading to different possibilities for strategy and exploration. Some games in this category have multiple boards which are not used simultaneously, preserving table space. Unused boards remain out of play until they are required.
Modular Board
This mechanic usually requires players to pick up an item or good at one location on the playing board and bring it to another location on the playing board. Initial placement of the item can be either predetermined or random. The delivery of the good usually gives the player money to do more actions with. In most cases, there is a game rule or another mechanic that determines where the item needs to go.

I had fun with this...but...it isn't one I will purchase...I may play it again. I may even teach it at a convention perhaps. The issue is that games built around this level of asymmetry are challenging games that require a certain level of buy-in and replay to get full value from it. That is why I have been hesitant to purchase Root, and owning Oath hasn't really returned on investment. The intricacies of the player relationships in this game are fascinating...all roles walk a tightrope to game end. But you don't see the big picture on first play. So you run into a discussion on whether the game has breadth on his own merits and design, or is simply a function of the high barrier to entry and asymmetry. In this case, I feel it is the latter.

This game took a bit to learn since each player is basically using different mechanics, but the playability is fun and exciting. I'd highly recommend it anyone who has never tried an asymmetrical game before...oh, and to those who have!

Nice game of the Leder games, it takes a lot from Vast and mix with Root. Asymmetry, pick up and delivery, area control.
