Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.

Aftershock feels like a fun and truly unique party game, but with hardcore gamer rules. It has every mechanic imaginable: Area majority, negotiation, programmable actions, bluffing, Isle of Skye-style selling, and it looks like Ticket to Ride. Highly engaging and good amount of laughter. But there’s just too much chaos to please gamers, and the convoluted gameplay will scare off non-gamers - there’s literally like a dozen phases to each round. It’s too messy at 5p - need to try this at 3p or 4p. Feels like an unfinished prototype a bit - needs to be streamlined. It’s wayyy more of a Kickstarter game than a Alan Moon / Stronghold game. Like the auction/draft system is clever, but belongs in a different game. Shame because there’s a awesome game in there somewhere.

One 3er game. Want to try this again to see how it plays out. We had to call it two-thirds of the way through. Worried the aftershocks may be too much hot potato randomness for me. But i do want to play it again to find out.

Was very boring and felt very uninspired. The theme is just there and makes no sense really. Overall none of the 7 people we played this with enjoyed it and from what I could tell everyone strongly disliked this and had no interest playing it again. I strongly disliked it.
