This review is for Aeon's End 2nd Edition, The War Eternal (stand alone expansion), and The Depths, The Outer Dark and The Void small box expansions. At the time of writing, we have owned the base game for about two months. In the past two months, we have bought all of the expansions listed above (and will buy The Nameless should it become available) as well as having every intention of buying Aeon's End Legacy when it hits the shelves. Also, this has easily become the most played game in our collection and is likely to continue to rack up plays. Why? Because the game is outstanding! It always offers interesting choices and the deck building mechanisms really make us feel we have some control over the strategy. The numerous different Nemeses (Bosses) that are available all feel like they change the game significantly; along with the numerous different characters with their own player powers, the different gems (primary source of currency), relics and spells available, we feel it unlikely that replay-ability will ever be an issue, Aeon's End feels like a unique challenge every play through. Very, very occasionally, the game whoops us. Very, very occasionally, we whoop the game but mostly, it has that rare balance that almost always leaves us saying 'if our turn had come up first we could have won!' or 'if we hadn't got lucky with the turn order at the end we wouldn't have won!. I suspect that this 'almost always a nail biting finish' is a combination of huge effort to balance the game and the simple but very effective and engaging 'turn order deck'. We can not imagine enjoying a game more or rating a game more highly. One final comment; a small disclaimer - the vast majority of plays we have had have been with two players only. We have played with a third player a couple of times and it was still fabulous but we did only play it a couple of times.
