A Euro with a theme that is actually engaging. OK, some issues with game length, but the Igor rule variant does a great deal to address this. For me this elevates the game from a 7 to a solid 8 rating. Not only is there a rich theme, but it is a relatively unvisited one in the horror genre.

Okay, this game is one of those that I LOVE certain aspects and HATE certain other aspects. The worker placement mechanism in this game is awesome. The "resource" collection aspect of the game, albeit macabre, is interesting. The look of the game is top-notch. But the dice aspect during the lab phase is ridiculous and pretty much ruined the game for me (rolling 12 dice over two turns and getting zero eyes and taking 10 damage, destroying all of the effort I had put in on multiple previous turns, even with dice-mitigation cards from the Academy, is just plain dispiriting). That, and the game just seemed to drag on and on and on - well over 3 hours; on turn 6 of 13, I was ready to be done.

Yes it's suuuuuper long but the theme is awesome, the gameplay is interesting and the dice... Well they can screw you but it sure is exciting rolling them! Me and the missus love this one. This would have been a 7 but she's a secret goth so it gains a point.
