7 Wonders (Second Edition)
30m
2 - 5 Players
Ages 10+
Card drafting games are games in which players pick cards from a limited subset, such as a common pool, to gain some advantage (immediate or longterm) or to assemble hands of cards that are used to meet objectives within the game.
Card Drafting
Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.
Set Collection
The simultaneous action selection mechanic lets players secretly choose their actions. After they are revealed, the actions resolve following the rule-set of the game.
Simultaneous Action Selection
Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.

Luck has a big role and that is not a good idea when you want to build a strategy based on your wonder.

I played the first edition of 7 Wonders twice a few years ago. I liked it but it was not on my list of favourite board games, however, this new version is. My review is regarding playing with people aged 20 to 30 years old. When first reading the instructions, they seem complex but understandable. However, explaining them to new players is quite hard as there are many intricate mechanics that only come into play at the end of the game. The first play was slow and a couple of the rules were misinterpreted. The good thing is that was VERY easy to find clarification for the weirdest mechanics of the cards online. Despite that, the game was very enjoyable and everyone was excited to play again now they understood the rules. The second game was much easier and you can see the development of strategies now that everyone understands how to win. After that, this is quite an enjoyable game and everyone was happy to play more. In terms of replayability, there are 14 different settings of the board and several strategies that one can attempt to win. This makes the game have a large replayability value, even if you want to keep playing the same game for an entire game. The design of the game, cards and boards is lovely - I was very happy with it. However, I think the boards could have been a bit sturdier. One of my boards was also badly printed. This does not affect the gameplay but makes it less pretty. Beware of this. Overall I am quite happy with the game and after playing it a bit more, I am considering buying the expansion packs.
