1754: Conquest – The French and Indian War
60m - 120m
2 - 4 Players
Ages 10+
The Campaign/Battle Card Driven mechanic is a relatively recent development in war games that focuses the players' actions on cards they have in their hand. The very basic idea is that performing a single action uses a single card. Games where cards are used to determine the outcome of battles do not use this mechanic.
Campaign / Battle Card Driven
Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.

Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.

Card driven dice chucker with teams of 2 and a cool card sequence so you aren't entirely sure what your teammate will do. Art is very nice and components are perfect for the game. What's not to like?

I enjoy the fluid nature of this, with the ports and forts. Need to try with the expansion, which I think adds a little wrinkle. I have a longterm project which is to try and look at how to give the indigenous nations some agency, because that's the only knock, really - the way they sort of just pick whoever is winning seems a little, well, I'm not sure, it needs some thought at any rate. I foresee a fifth faction, for play as a third or a fifth, with changing but hidden goals. Anyway. Aside from that, this is great because it doesn't feel like a border skirmish, but more of a war with important and immediate strategic concerns. Fluid, like I said. The cardplay is a big part of that. Yep, really enjoy this one.
