Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
Player elimination occurs in multiple-player games (>2) when a player can be eliminated from the game and play continues without the eliminated player.
Player Elimination
Maneuvers that directly attack an opposing player's strength, level, life points or do something else to impede their progress.
Take That
Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.

Kickstarted. It adds an extra layer to think about and also allows players to manipulate the teams to protect themselves and force opponents to attack specific players. Also adds the Inquisitor which changes the game a lot. Not sure if it's essential to have if you already own the base game, but it does add a little something extra. The best thing about it is that you can now play it up to 10 players.

This adds room for further players, which I find spoils Coup as I much prefer it as a three or four player game. The last thing I want to do is play it as a ten player game. Which is unfortunate as the actual additions require more players to make it work. The religious factions mean that you can only target players on the opposite faction. There is some gamesmanship as you can flip your own or someone else's faction. It's passable but I find it dilutes what I like about Coup. If you like to play Coup with lots of players then you would probably like this expansion.

kinda unnecessary really. Coup is a great game on it's own, this expansion stretches Coup to it's limits and tries to wrap another game around coup.
