The push your luck element really shines in Imperial Settlers. However, while Aztecs are a fun faction to experience, they drastically increase the games length. They are absolutely worth the buy and fantastic at one and two player counts.
Bigwood
We've played with the Aztecs four times now in three- or four-player games with experienced players. It's been discussed previously on the geek, but the Aztecs expansion is too powerful compared to the base game factions. It's like they took all the power of the Atlanteans faction and gave it to the Aztecs but without any drawbacks. Don't believe the folks that say you can deckbuild your way out of the problem. There are more powerful cards available, but nearly all of them also make the other factions less focused and efficient. If you're looking for Imperial Settlers expansions but still like playing with the base factions don't buy this expansion or the Amazons expansion. Stick with Why Can't We Be Friends, 3 is a Magic Number, and maybe the Atlanteans (The Atlantean expansion is a little too strong in two player games, but fair in three- and four-player games, in my opinion.)
