In The Goonies: Escape with One-Eyed Willy’s Rich Stuff, you can play as Mikey, Brand, Mouth, Data, Andy, Stef, Chunk, and Sloth and go on a quest for One-Eyed Willy’s hidden treasure! Each character offers their own special skill as everyone must decode clues and get the answers needed to reach The Inferno. Just keep the dreaded Fratellis away from adding to the obstacles in this challenge that calls for the gang’s collective focus and dedication!
As with the previous releases by designers Jay Cormier and Sen Foong Lim, this “Coded Chronicles” game incorporates a strong narrative storyline from the iconic franchise as a guide for players to work together and unlock new locations and resources using a code-revealing mechanism. Lose yourself in real-time puzzle-solving and swashbuckling suspense, without a time constraint cutting off the fun. After all, “Goonies Never Say Die!”
In more detail, “Coded Chronicles” is an at-home escape room-style game in which players are guided to unlock clues and solve puzzles by a unique code-revealing mechanism. Each game contains its own storyline and objective to offer an unpredictable game play experience!

I preferred this to the other new Goonies release, as it was playable solo (the other needs at least 2), plus the possessions, the side view scrolling (rather than the top down of Never Say Die) and the puzzles transported me to the Goonies quest to overcome problems to reach the treasure. There were some confusing parts and some of the puzzles were really challenging The narrative sticks to the movie, with quotable content, still I'm not a fan of the movie.

A fine but not great escape room. The puzzles varied from very easy to a bit tough (only a couple were brain burners). There were only a few incidents where we solved the puzzle but could not figure out what form the game wanted us to present the answer. Having a book for each character was a bit of a pointless gimmick. In just about every case, we knew exactly which book to read at each point in the game and bouncing between books during major story beats was just annoying. It felt like the game was designed to tell a story along with the puzzles, but it was a story that we had all been told better by the movie.

We loved the character dialogue, everyone was very fleshed out, and at times it was like seeing deleted scenes from the movie. However, the plot of the game follows the movie (which has been screen burned into my mind) almost beat for beat. Honestly, I would have preferred a completely new Goonie adventure — a spiritual Goonies II. Unlike the Scooby Doo mystery's top-down grid-like layout, Goonies is spread out like a side-scrolling NES platformer. We had to take a picture at the end of the game — it was truly that impressive. Additionally, the components are top notch. I do not want to spoil contents of the secret envelopes, but all of the physical puzzle pieces are the highest quality we have seen so far in an escape room game. Yet, this wasn't really an escape room game, it felt more like a narrative adventure game. I struggle to rank the two Coded Chronicles games we have played thus far. Goonies had incredible table presence and amazing puzzle components, but Scooby Doo was both a mystery game and an escape room game with an original story. It seems that the Scooby Gang and the Goonie Gang are dead even. Caught by the Fratellis 2 Times: "At least you got the rich stuff."
