Card drafting games are games in which players pick cards from a limited subset, such as a common pool, to gain some advantage (immediate or longterm) or to assemble hands of cards that are used to meet objectives within the game.
Card Drafting
Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
Maneuvers that directly attack an opposing player's strength, level, life points or do something else to impede their progress.

8-12-14: Fun game. It think it's a teensy bit long for what it is, but I'm always willing to play. DTC Math Trade

Best played with 3-4 players. Can be played more than that, with enough expansions and extra factions, but the game starts to really drag on so many players' turns.

A well thought idea with a bit awkward execution. I really enjoyed choosing factions to create my own unique draw deck. The asymmetrical setup makes the game much more interesting and adds longevity, I reckon. The art is a bit childish but works. Figuring out the best way to play your hand and creating combos is fun, BUT the very same part is the downfall of Smash Up as well. You simply have too many cards in your hand and there are too many things going on the table in parallel which forms a too vast of an option space for a game that should be played at a very fast pace. Sure you can throw cards casually without giving your moves much of a thought but you would miss the point of the game entirely. There is an easy fix to the problem, i.e., reduce the hand limit by half and remove some of the point cards fought over from the table, but I must admit that this might cause some balance issues if you just keep drawing wrong types of cards. But anyways, Smash Up offers enough fun to justify its existence despite the rough edges.
